Stunning Universal Genève microrotor, centre seconds hand dress slim watch. Swiss Made. All original, lovely golden dial, golden baton markers with matching dauphine hands. Universal classic logo and caseback Globe design. Signed Crown. Signed Plaque G. 40 FPSA on the case lateral under band. Harmonic dress watch (PP Calatrava-like). Universal historic, richly signed 28 jewels caliber 215-9 working fine.
As quoted by Hodinkee, originally designed by Gerald Genta for the first trans-Atlantic flight over the North Pole, the Polerouter is a fantastic Universal Genève with historical relevance.
The Polerouter was produced in 1954 by Universal Genève in partnership with Scandinavian Airline System (SAS) by Gerald Gent (same designer of icons Audemars Piguet´s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe´s Nautilus). Universal developed the automatic Polerouter to be more resistant to the strong magnetic fields at the North and South poles. In fact, the flight route is engraved on the case back. Originally, the watch did not feature a date window like this rare example. Powered by the fully signed, famous caliber 215-9, 28 jewels movement (with microrotor). The version you see here is plaque gold, with golden dial as a differentiator. Overall, this is a beautiful watch with a rich aviation history. Condition: movement, case and bezel great, some damage on the gold plaque (lugs only).
